Poet-in-Residence at St Mirren Football Club, Julie McNeill, will share poems and photographs from her book 'We Are Scottish Football, as part of A Poem, A Pie and A Pint Event at Giffnock Library on Wednesday 20 November from 7.30pm-9pm. Kelburn Brewery in Barrhead will supply local ales and Newlands Bakery in Giffnock will provide pies at the event.
Two accomplished local authors, Laura Stewart and Breea Keenan, will share their experiences and insight into their writing journeys, read some of their work and engage with the audience in a Q&A session at Clarkston Library on Thursday 21 November from 7-8pm.
Laura Stewart, author of cosy crime series including The Murder Affair in Stone Manor novel, which was shortlisted to the final few of the Richard and Judy Search for a Bestseller competition, said: "I'm delighted to be taking part in this event. As well as being a writer I am also very much an avid reader. Book Week Scotland is a wonderful opportunity for book lovers to share their joy of reading and to celebrate all things book related."
Children can join the Book Week Scotland celebrations at a SEPA funded interactive family performance as Act About perform 'Smogs Up With That' at Clarkston Library on Monday 18 November from 3.45-4.30pm, with a focus on the air we breathe and what we can do to clean it up, with fun and games along the way.
Barrhead Foundry Library and Giffnock Library will welcome author Alan Windram, author of the One Button Benny series and Kevin the Orange picture books for a special session with local primary schools as part of the Book Week Scotland celebrations, with a fun event of singing, dancing and being happy in your own skin.
East Renfrewshire libraries will host special Bookbug gifting sessions for all primary one classes, as children receive a Family Bookbug Bag full of books and activities to have fun with reading, writing and counting at home.
Scott Simpson, Head of Libraries and Information at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: “We're excited to welcome established writers and host a series of interactive events for adults and children during Book Week Scotland. We look forward to welcoming everyone along to our libraries to join the national celebration of books and reading.”
Book Week Scotland 2024 takes place from 18-24 November, supported by Creative Scotland and the Scottish Library and Information Council.
