Four accomplished crime writers will team up for a murder mystery night, as part of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure's Dead Good October series of spook-tacular events.
Caro Ramsay, Theresa Talbot, Michael J. Malone and Douglas Skelton will host Carry on Sleuthing at Clarkston Library on Tuesday 29 October from 7pm. The cast of crime writers will be on hand to guide super sleuths through the evidence, consider the clues and find the killer at this murder mystery event, for ages 18+.
Former journalist and best-selling Scottish author, C.S Robertson will share his inspirations and insights to Scottish crime fiction at Giffnock Library on Thursday 10 October from 7-8pm, as part of the Dead Good October line up. C.S Robertson has written many acclaimed crime novels, including 'The undiscovered deaths of Grace McGill' and his most recent title, 'The Trials of Marjorie Crowe'.
The Witchcraft in the Shire of Renfrew, led by local historian Lorraine Murray, will separate fact from fiction, examining some of the cases of those accused of witchcraft during the 16th and 17th century from the old ‘Shire of Renfrew’, which includes present day East Renfrewshire. The Witchcraft in the Shire of Renfrew talk will be hosted at Eastwood House on Thursday 24 October from 6.30-8pm.
Anthony McReavy, Chief Executive of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: “Dead Good October is back with a bang and we look forward to celebrating the spookiest month of the year with a whole host of thrilling events.
“Our libraries will present our murder mystery evening with four accomplished crime authors, welcome C.S. Robertson for an author event and host crime cafes, as well as offering the perfect crime stories for readers throughout the month.
“We look forward to exploring the area's past with our witchcraft heritage talk at Eastwood House, as well as cinema screenings of Starve Acre and Young Frankenstein at Eastwood Park Theatre.”
Mearns Library will host Crime Cafes, inviting book lovers to join crime-loving staff as they select some of the best crime novels to put under the forensic microscope on Tuesday 1 October at 10.30am. Readers will be encouraged to take titles away and re-join the Crime Cafe on Tuesday 21 October at 10.30am for a post-mortem discussion.
Eastwood Park Theatre will present a cinema screening of Starve Acre, starring Matt Smith (House of Dragons, Doctor Who) and Morfydd Clark (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) on Wednesday 2 October. Director Daniel Kokotajlo’s follow up to his BAFTA nominated debut Apostasy sees Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark star in this highly anticipated adaptation of Andrew Michael Hurley’s popular folk horror novel. A cinema screening of Young Frankenstein is lined up for Halloween (31 October at 7.30pm).
Library events can be booked directly with the library, while Witchcraft in the Shire of Renfrew and cinema screenings are available to book: www.ercultureandleisure.org
