Author Louise Gray joins the Book Week Scotland celebrations and delves into her book, Avocado Anxiety, on Wednesday 15 November from 6.30-7.30pm at Clarkston Library. The book explores the fascinating history of how some foods have become firm favourites and what the future looks like for crops like bananas and potatoes. Louise has worked as Environment Correspondent at Daily Telegraph, and as a freelance writer, she writes for the BBC, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Country Life, The Spectator and Scottish Field. Her book The Ethical Carnivore discussed the ethics of meat by only eating animals she killed herself, which won two awards at The Guild of Food Writers Awards.

Alastair Dinsmore MBE of The Glasgow Police Museum will lead illustrated talk centred around The History of the City of Glasgow Police 1800s-1975 at Giffnock Library on Thursday 16 November from 6.30pm-7.30pm. Alastair served for thirty three years on the Glasgow force and was awarded an MBE by the Queen in recognition of his services to police heritage.

Scotland Stars FC author Danny Scott will welcome pupils from East Renfrewshire schools for a journey into the beautiful game of football. Danny will read an action-packed extract from one of his books and lead interactive challenges, quizzes and perhaps even a penalty shoot out! Primary one classes from across East Renfrewshire will also be invited to attend a special gifting session in the community library where each child will be gifted a Family Bag.

Scott Simpson, Head of Libraries and Information Services at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: “Book Week Scotland is a fantastic celebration of books and reading, with events taking place throughout the week across Scotland.

“East Renfrewshire's libraries are delighted to be part of this and look forward to welcoming author Louise Gray to hear about her latest book, Avocado Anxiety. Alastair Dinsmore MBE will give a fascinating insight into the history of the Glasgow police, offering his views, experiences and expertise from a successful career.

“We've also invited local pupils to meet Scotland FC author Danny Scott, who is sure to inspire with his interactive and engaging session and look forward to welcoming hundreds of primary one pupils from across East Renfrewshire along to our libraries to receive their special Family Bag.”

East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure libraries host a range of events throughout the year, from author and book-themed events to storytime sessions, reading challenge events, interactive digital sessions, STEM events, family fun days, lego club and more.
