The doors of the theatre in Giffnock opened fifty years ago on 8 January 1973 with a live performance of "The Schoolmistress" by Giffnock Players' Club. On the same date in 2023, children's favourites The McDougalls (pictured) presented a spectacular stage show for all the family, with a screening of André Rieu performing in Dublin in the evening.

Ryan Moir, co-founder of The McDougalls, better known to families as Max in the famed children's show, said: “Eastwood Park Theatre is a very special place to us. It was one of the first theatres The McDougalls visited and even through lockdowns the theatre was so supportive of us - inviting us along to stream performances for families and schools. And it has always been our go to location for filming McDougalls videos! The auditorium is perfect for children’s shows. Everyone gets a great view of the stage, and audiences are some of the best in the country! We see the same families come back time and time again. The staff are always so welcoming too. For 50 years it has served its community, and we’re so proud to be a tiny part of that history.”

Highlights of the first half of the golden anniversary programme also include live music, Scottish comedy, theatre, opera and ballet screenings, children's theatre and much more.

Football legend Gordon Strachan will present an insight into his career in January. The former footballer will talk about his time playing for Aberdeen, Manchester United and Leeds United as well as gracing the international stage for Scotland, before managing Southampton and Celtic.

Wilson and Wakeman take to the stage as part of their UK tour featuring Adam Wakeman, best known as the keyboard player with Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, and songwriter and vocalist Damian Wilson who has appeared on over 70 album releases. Live music continues throughout the year, with the Legends of American Country show, The Jive Aces, The Down for the Count Concert Orchestra and Abbamania lined up.

A full comedy live line up, with four of the most entertaining comedians on the comedy circuit performing together in one show is presented on April Fool's Day, with Graham Mackie, Chris Forbes, Cubby and Raymond Mearns. Stand-up comedy also comes from triple Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Josie Long, who brings the brand-new show Josie Long: Re-enchantment to Eastwood Park Theatre in June.

Singing Kettle star Artie is dusting off the famous kettles and bringing a brand new show, Artie's Singing Kettles Silly Songs. CBeebies Popcast star Nick Cope, who has been writing and recording unique songs for children and their families for over 10 years, performs live at the theatre in February in a sell-out show. Children's Classic Concerts presents interactive and inspiring orchestral concerts with Peter and the Wolf on Tour on 4 March, with a pre-show workshop also available to introduce children to various instruments and the format of a classic orchestral concert.

The theatre's programme throughout the year will feature screenings of films from the year 1973, when the theatre first opened its doors, including Disney's Robin Hood and The Way We Were. Several screenings of the Royal Opera House, including The Barber of Seville, and the Royal Ballet, including Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty will be shown at the theatre, while theatre screenings from NT Live this season include The Crucible, Othello and Good.

Anthony McReavy from East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure said: "We're very proud to celebrate 50 years of Eastwood Park Theatre bringing entertainment to our local community. We have a fantastic programme of events lined up to mark this special occasion, with a range of shows for all ages. We also have more exciting performances up our sleeves so keep an eye on our social media for special announcements."

Eastwood Park Theatre regularly hosts sell-out shows throughout the year, from highly successful pantomime performances to live music such as Marti Pellow and Eddi Reader who sold out shows in 2022. The theatre also attracts high-profile comedy performances, from Janey Godley and Dom Joly to Leah MacRae and Fred MacAulay, as well as top tribute acts, touring theatre performances and renowned children's shows.

The team has been working to make the theatre more accessible and inclusive to all, inviting community groups who may not usually attend live shows to free performances earlier this year, through Creative Scotland funding. British Sign Language workshops for children were hosted earlier this year and the theatre regularly hosts BSL and relaxed performances for those with additional support needs.
