Not only is the Beat the Street game intended to help people’s physical health, but also has an impact on mental health too. The Go Wild themed week starts on Wednesday, with the aim of encouraging local residents to explore their local parks, waterways and green spaces. Players can get double points all weekend on Beat Boxes 16, 17, 30, 31, 40, 44, 45 and 46.

The Beat the Street game is currently taking place across Barrhead, Newton Mearns and Neilston and has seen 5,520 people sign up and together walk, cycle and wheel a total of 17,250 miles so far!

There are leaderboards for school, community, workplace teams and individuals. The top school team on the total and average points leaderboards will each win £300 Scotia Bookstore or Decathlon vouchers and a trophy.

Currently, Crookfur Primary School leads the total points leaderboard and Clan Crookfur leads the average points leaderboard.

Beat the Street Barrhead, Newton Mearns & Neilston has been commissioned by East Renfrewshire Council with support from Paths for All’s Smarter Choices, Smarter Places programme and Scotland's Towns Partnership’s Scotland Loves Local Fund. It is being delivered by Intelligent Health.

Councillor Tony Buchanan, Leader of East Renfrewshire Council: “Even if you’ve lived here for some time, it’s amazing how you tend to stick to the same areas. Beat the Street really helps people get out locally to explore what’s on the doorstep.

“The Go Wild week is designed to help residents explore their surroundings on foot and to really discover those hidden parks, waterways and green spaces that you might not know about.”

Anyone of any age is invited to take part in the free game and you can still get involved for the remaining weeks. Just pick up a card from one of the distribution points listed at www.beatthestreet.me/eastrenfrewshire
