The gym and fitness facilities at Barrhead Foundry and Eastwood Park Leisure will reopen on Monday 7 September. Swimming pools at these two centres plan to re-open on Monday 14 September. Members will be able to pre-book gym sessions, swimming slots and selected fitness classes, including Spin, Body Pump and Yoga.
All swimming and fitness memberships will remain frozen.
Chief Executive Anthony McReavy said: “We look forward to welcoming our members back to our venues and facilities. Barrhead Foundry and Eastwood Park Leisure will be first to reopen on 7 September and our other leisure venues will follow, as part of our phased plans. We're planning to reopen swimming facilities on 14 September.
“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and staff is our priority and social distancing and cleanliness measures will be in place across all of our venues and facilities.
“Our staff have been working extremely hard behind the scenes in preparation for reopening, including additional training focused on helping and supporting members.
“I want to thank all of our customers and staff for their continued support and patience during this time and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”
East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure has invested in new cleaning equipment, significantly increased cleaning at venues and will have hand sanitiser available for customers. Clear social distancing measures will be in place at each venue, in line with Government guidance.
East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure has highlighted the following changes that will be in place:
• East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure members should reserve a time slot in advance of attending and all gym sessions, fitness classes and swimming slots must be pre-booked.
• There will be a limited number of people in the gym and the swimming pool at any one time.
• Members will be asked to come dressed ready for their gym or fitness class and to leave straight after their allocated session. There will be no changing facilities available after gym sessions or fitness classes.
• There will be increased space between pieces of equipment in the gym to ensure social distancing is maintained.
• Fitness classes will operate with smaller class sizes and the floor area clearly marked to maintain social distance between customers
• Staff and customers will take responsibility for cleaning equipment used. Members must wipe down equipment and machines both before and after use and staff will clean kit and surfaces before each gym session or fitness class.
• A one way system will be in operation, with clear signage for members to follow
• Increased cleaning in the pool and pool changing facilities will apply. Additional deep cleaning of the facilities and gym and fitness areas will take place every night.
• Hand sanitising stations will also available throughout the venues
• All East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure staff have undergone specialist COVID awareness and health and safety training in advance of assisting customers.
Barrhead Foundry and Eastwood Park Leisure's facilities will be available for members only initially. All fitness and swimming memberships will remain frozen.
The charity Trust has continued supporting health and wellbeing throughout lockdown, with a team of qualified fitness instructors providing free online fitness classes for kids and adults. Online fitness classes will continue on Facebook.
