The £100,000 investment from the Council has delivered two public courts to further enhance the much-loved greenspace and offer opportunities for East Renfrewshire residents to get involved in sport.
The ace tennis courts are now built and ready for free public use – tennis enthusiasts can use the courts at any time without having to make a booking. A table tennis table is also open next to the skate park with equipment available from the park’s pavilion.
Council Leader Tony Buchanan said: “I am thrilled that the two tennis courts at Rouken Glen are now complete and open for the public to practice their serve. The tennis courts are a valuable addition to the local area - with courts in Cowan Park in Barrhead already popular, we look forward to welcoming tennis players of all abilities to the park. Tennis is a great way for people of all ages and abilities to keep fit, stay healthy and have fun all year round”.
Councillor Alan Lafferty, Convener for Environment, added: “I am delighted that the courts are now up and running for local residents and visitors to Rouken Glen to enjoy over the summer months and beyond. The courts are a brilliant addition to the park, building on a recent £3m investment which has seen the creation of a new playpark, refurbished visitor centre and redeveloped wall garden. People like to visit Rouken Glen from far and wide and the opening of the new tennis courts are just another reason to visit”.
The investment was made by the Council to replace the two courts which previously existed in Stamperland, prior to the land being sold by the owners for development.
