There was a large turnout at Mearns Cross in Newton Mearns where the local branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland held its remembrance service at the recently refurbished war memorial.
The pipe band of the Glasgow Jewish Lads' and Girls' Brigade led the parade past the memorial and also in attendance were the Neilston & District Pipe Band.
The service was attended by East Renfrewshire councillors with council leader Councillor Jim Fletcher laying a wreath on behalf of the council. ERC Chief Executive Lorraine McMillan also attended.
Wreaths were also laid by the Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire Mr Guy Clark, Ken Macintosh MSP for Eastwood, Jim Murphy MP for Eastwood, Stewart Maxwell MSP for West of Scotland, Chief Inspector Angela Carty of Police Scotland, Paul Morron of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council and Harold Baker, representing the Association of Jewish Ex-servicemen and women.
Representatives from ex-servicemens’ organisations including the Royal British Legion Scotland and local cadets also laid wreaths.
Senior pupils from East Renfrewshire High schools also laid small crosses with poppies attached at the base of the new memorial wall.
The Barrhead service held at the Cenotaph in Cowan Park on Sunday afternoon attracted a crowd of well over 100 people.
The Stamperland Pipe Band band led the parade into the park and praise was led by the Barrhead Burgh Band.
Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire Mr Guy Clark, ERC leader Councillor Jim Fletcher, Jim Murphy MP for Eastwood, Hugh Henry MSP for Renfrewshire South, Chief Inspector Angela Carty of Police Scotland were among those who laid wreaths.
Other wreaths were laid by representatives of the Red Cross, Cadets of United Services, Barrhead Community Council.
Strathclyde Fire Brigade and the West of Scotland Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.
Local councillors attended the service which was conducted by Father Paul Brady of St John’s RC Church, and The Rev Jim Cowan of St Andrew’s Parish Church.
Neilston Parish Church held a remembrance event with the children of St Thomas’ and Neilston primaries holding their own vigil at the Garden of Remembrance in the village’s Main Street.
Poems and other tribute pieces were read, while wreaths and poppies will be placed by the youngsters.
