At 3rd Barrhead we have been going since Adam was a boy. We have a can do will do attitude. We like to go camping rather than talk about camping.
We run various camps every year and lots of activities. Scouting can be very rewarding if you put your time and effort into it. Many of our boys and girls have came through the ranks and have been with us for years.
3rd Barrhead Beavers
Beaver Scouting is all about having fun, making friends and learning new skills. Youngsters start to gain some independence while trying out many different activities and experiencing new adventures. They follow a balanced programme, earning Challenge Awards and Activity Badges, but the most important parts are joining in and trying their best.
The fun includes going on visits, making things, playing games and exploring the world around them. They learn about other people and about themselves.
Boys and girls aged 6 or 7 can become a Beaver Scout and around the time of their 8th birthday, move to Cubs to continue on their path through Scouting.
3rd Barrhead Cubs
Cubs are for young people usually aged between eight and ten and a half years old. They belong to the second section in the Scouting family. There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform.
Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. This will mean you sleeping in a tent and doing loads of outdoor activities.
3rd Barrhead Scouts
The Scout Section is for all young people aged between 10½ and 14, no matter what your gender, faith, or whether you have any disabilities. A young person can come in to the Troop at 10 and may stay until they are 14½ years old.
Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. “Participation” rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of badges and awards.
Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes
Being outdoors is important and taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities from from abseiling to yachting, form an important part of the activities.
Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.
3rd Barrhead Explorers
Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth Section of the Scouting family.
As a member of 121st Clarkston Glasgow Scouts you'll get incredible opportunities and have truly unforgettable experiences. You'll have fun, make friends and develop skills that prepare you for life.
