A one acre garden on an historic site. Two significant buildings are in the grounds: a crow-stepped dovecot dated 1636, with many of the original stone nestboxes in good condition. It probably served as a larder for the adjacent ruins of Tour. Timothy Pont, visiting Tour in 1604 reported that it had many rooms and was probably the vicarage of the collegiate priory once standing near the site. Only nobles and clerics were allowed to keep pigeons. A burn runs through the garden, the south side being maintained as a woodland walk. The north side lawns are divided by dry stone dykes and feature a mature Alaskan cedar (nootkatensis) and large horse chestnuts. They are surrounded by shrubberies. At the rear of the house are two polytunnels and a greenhouse, growing chrysanthemums, dahlias, roses and vegetables.
Directions: Kirkton Road lies off the A735 . It is a narrow lane down past the Kirk and Kilmaurs Cemetery. Park outside Kilmaurs Glencairn Kirk (limited parking at the house for disabled access).
Other details: Dogs are allowed but must be on a lead.
