The bins have specific sections for paper, glass, cans, plastics and general litter.
These materials correspond with those which East Ren residents recycle at home for kerbside collection.
To help East Renfrewshire achieve a higher recycling rate the bins are located in busy areas and on school routes.
East Renfrewshire has the second highest recycling rate in Scotland.
Locals residents already recycle 56 per cent of their waste and the council has a target to increase this to 70 per cent by 2025.
A mini kerbside lorry and 40 bins were funded by Zero Waste Scotland.
Recycling on the go is just one way locals can ‘Think Green’ and contribute towards creating a greener East Renfrewshire.
Councillor Vincent Waters, East Renfrewshire environment convener said: “East Renfrewshire has one of the top recycling rates in the country and now we are enabling people to contribute even further towards that with these new recycling on the go bins. I urge people to use them properly so that more materials can be recycled.”
Charlie Devine head of resource management for Zero Waste Scotland said: “Zero Waste Scotland is delighted to be helping East Renfrewshire Council introduce facilities for residents to recycle on-the-go in busy parts of the local authority area. It means people can keep up their good recycling habits when they’re out and about. It also gives people the option to dispose of items that might otherwise end up as litter in a responsible way. It’s all part of our efforts to help increase Scotland’s recycling rate nationally, boosting our economy and protecting our environment.”
