Voters in East Renfrewshire are being reminded to make sure they are ready to take part in the UK Parliamentary election next week.

The election takes place on 7 May and voters are being advised to ensure they know how to vote and can easily take part.

East Renfrewshire Council chief executive and returning officer Lorraine McMillan said: “Please take a minute to check your polling card so you know where to cast your vote on 7 May.
“There will be signs outside polling stations on the day but to avoid a wasted journey please double check before you head off to cast your vote.

“If you haven’t received your poll card, you can still vote and staff at the election office will be able to tell you where you should attend to vote.

“We also want to make sure everyone’s vote counts, whether they are voting by post or in person, the safest way to do this is to only put one ‘X’ beside the candidate of your choice.”

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 7 May and voters can only vote at the polling station that is stated on their own poll card.

Postal voters must return their vote by 10pm on 7 May via mail or by taking it to their polling station and handing it in.

Proxy voters must ensure they are able to vote at the correct polling station and an emergency proxy can be applied for until 5pm on polling day. To apply for an emergency proxy, you must contact the electoral registration office on 0300 300 0150.
