Secondary school pupils have also competed in an inter-schools Commonwealth tournament, which saw young people competing in a host of sports.
The event took place at Eastwood High Sports Centre and other venues. Winners were St Ninian’s High School.
Sports included hockey, basketball, table tennis, athletics, rugby, squash and bowls. Hundreds of pupils competed over the course of a day.
The council’s sports team has come to the end of its roadshow, which has been visiting every primary school in the area.
It means more than 8,500 children have now taken part in a mini baton relay and tried out Commonwealth sports. There were 28 roadshows held at 23 different schools.
Both the Games and the last leg of the roadshow took place during Legacy Week, a national campaign which aims to encourage people to get involved in Glasgow 2014 and spotlight how programmes and investment connected to the Games are improving the lives of people in Scotland.
Convener for community services and community safety, Councillor Mary Montague, said: “Having the Commonwealth Games on our doorstep will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy for local residents – it’s going to be a very exciting time.
“It’s fitting that the completion of our roadshow and our inter-schools festival culminated with Legacy Week.
“It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying and competing in such a wide range of sports.
“The Games and the Queen’s Baton Relay’s arrival in East Renfrewshire will inspire people to get involved in sport, live healthy lives and be active – that really is a legacy.”
