Only with the help of many children can the National Trust for Scotland hope to regain control of Greenbank Gardens!
As part of the 250th anniversary celebration the Festival of Frolics commemorates the garden's redevelopment in the 1960's, which, as everybody knows, was a very silly decade!
Councillor Tony Buchanan put his grandson, 18 month old Caleb through a few frolics today as Greenbank gets ready for the two day Visual Arts and Performance Festival that is being billed as perfect for kids of all ages!
Tony said, “Under 5’s go for free and this is great family fun day out that is designed to cater for all needs. Transport, food, fun! Perfect way to end the summer holidays with the family.”
Festival of Frolics eccentric creator and inventor, Roger from the Bureau of Silly Ideas, explains, “Frolics include a naked chef, a shoal of man-sized fish and a steaming pile of something unmentionable… just some of the things you'll find at the Festival of Frolics this weekend. So bring your kids along for an amazing and hilarious interactive experience; one last summer treat before they go back to school”.
Visitors must therefore report to the bus conductor at the Park & Ride based at Williamwood High School. This is where the experience begins and the clue trail starts.
Creative Producer, Zoe Bottrell adds, “Before you even arrive, you'll have negotiated the riddle on the journey to Greenbank. Mysterious guides will then explain the challenge ahead that involves following a trial and solving an elemental riddle in order to tame the garden. Explorers will then come across a multitude of surprises, including "hook a duck", a naked chef(!) and cheeky man-sized triffids that scoff whatever they can get their leaves on: visitors are urged to keep an eye on their sandwiches!
Collect the elements and solve the riddles to be allowed to leave the garden.”
Tickets
Under 5’s go for free! For everyone else:
Tickets are priced at £7.50 for adults, £5.00 for concessions (under -16 and OAP), £17.50 family ticket (2 adults, 2 under 16's). Ticket slots start at the beginning of each hour, but there is no time restriction on how long you remain at the Garden.
