We’re asking East Renfrewshire residents to suggest what the new building is called.
Dozens of ideas for the new name have already been put forward.
Now with the closing date fast approaching, it is your last chance to get your suggestions in.
The resident who chooses the winning name will get free use of the centre’s sports facilities for life.
Closing date is midnight on Wednesday 15 May and entries can be made on our website at www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk
The new Barrhead centre will be an innovative community hub in the heart of the town and will take the form of a substantial two-story extension to the front of Barrhead Sports Centre.
It will offer upgraded sports facilities, a state-of-the-art library, IT suite, learning opportunities, an improved café, WiFi and a diverse programme of activities for the entire community.
Also in the pipeline are a business zone and on-site support and advice on employment and getting back to work.
Flexible meeting rooms for conferences, training events and other activities will be available for community groups and local businesses to book.
Convener of community services and community safety Mary Montague said: “I’m delighted that so many people have taken the time to suggest names for the new Barrhead centre.
“There’s still time for people to get their ideas in and potentially win our excellent prize of free use of the centre’s sports facilities for life.
“The council is making a substantial investment in this centre of excellence in the heart of Barrhead which will be such an asset to the town – and this is your chance to have your idea right up there on this brilliant new building.”
In Barrhead Sports Centre, the sports hall and stage area will close in autumn to allow the major works to start. It will remain closed for around four months, with groups who use the current facilities temporarily relocating to other areas. The gym and pool will remain open.
The new hub is expected to open in autumn 2014.
