To explain the health and financial benefits of giving up, East Renfrewshire CHCP smoking cessation advisors Claire and Agnes will be on hand in Barrhead Health and Care Centre all day on Wednesday 13 March – no smoking day - with an information stall, and details of local smokefree services group support.
Giving up smoking for:
1 day – saves £7 and would buy two movie rentals or a new lipstick
1 week – saves £49 to buy a family cinema trip, a pair of shoes or a meal for two
1 month – saves £210 to bag premiership football tickets or a weekend break
3 months – saves £630 which would get you a designer handbag or the latest flatscreen TV
6 months – saves £1260 that you could spend on a leather suite or a top of the range bike
1 year – saves £2555 which would buy a new kitchen or a holiday of a lifetime.
And to help locals on their way towards living a smoke free life, from Monday March 11 to Friday March 15, there will also be dedicated No Smoking Day information points at Clarkston Clinic; Council HQ Eastwood Park; Barrhead Health and Care Centre, and the Main Street Barrhead Council Offices.
East Renfrewshire’s health convener, Councillor Lafferty, said: “Give yourself the best chance to stop smoking. Don’t struggle to try and quit on your own. People who join a smoking cessation group are four times more likely to stop smoking. Come along to one of the information stands to find out just what support is available to you in East Renfrewshire.
“CHCP Stop Smoking groups run regularly at Clarkston clinic, and Barrhead Main Street. To book a place or for more information contact East Renfrewshire Community Smokefree Services on 0141 577 4804.”
