The SDS Forum ER is a voluntary organisation funded by the Scottish Government that offers support for anyone thinking about directing their own support or that of someone they care for, or who is already directing their own social care package.
Formed in 2011 by a small collective of service users and carers, with funding from the Scottish Government, it’s a friendly, informed place to turn to ask others’ advice, share experiences and feel supported.
We all direct our own support package or the support of the person we care for and can help you with everything from the need-to-know to the good-to-know. Not only that, but because we have a mix of care and support needs, there’s every chance of you being able to speak to someone whose circumstances are similar to your own.
We are building and developing the forum to provide information and support for service users and carers as self-directed support is rolled out in East Renfrewshire.
We hope to do this in a number of ways, including:
Organising and promoting training, workshops and events on self-directed support - visit our News & Events page for details of what’s coming up.
Holding informal drop-in sessions - held at local venues so you can pop in and chat to our Committee members, staff and self-directed support partners.
Connecting you with other Forum members - so you can share experiences and ideas.
Putting you in touch with relevant organisations and information sources - to help you make the best decision for your circumstances.
Raising awareness of self-directed support - working in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council, local organisations and voluntary groups.
We will be introducing group and one-to-one sessions for even more peer support. We will have recently launched a DVD about SDS, produced in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council.
Our vision is one of people in East Renfrewshire choosing how their social care and support is provided to them and who provides it, and having as much control as they want over the individual budget spent on their support. In other words, our vision is one of people having the choice and control to live more independently.
In order to achieve our vision, we will make it our mission to provide good quality information and advice, encourage and enable the sharing of experiences, and connect individuals with the relevant organisations. Included in this we will also work in partnership with other organisations to help deliver our outcomes and achieve our objectives.
